"Greensted Church with Knowledge Club"This world's oldest wooden church is in Essex! So we headed out there to explore this interesting building.
In order to get there we had to pass through a town called Ongar, which apparently features the vague remains of a castle, and the grave of
Jane Taylor – the author of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Greensted is the oldest wooden church in the world, and probably the oldest wooden building in Europe still standing,
albeit only in part, since few sections of its original wooden structure remain. The oak walls are often classified as remnants of a palisade church or a kind of early stave church,
dated either to the mid-9th or mid-11th century. Greensted is still a functioning church and holds services every week. The volume of tourist visits is light, but steady. During our visit it was not crowded and we had a nice calm trip to this sacred place.
Thank you all for joining!
